People are upset over Sena split, I am confident of a win: Amol Kirtikar
Shiv Sena (UBT) Mumbai North-West Lok Sabha candidate Amol Kirtikar
Amol Kirtikar has been with the undivided Shiv Sena since the 1990s and is son of MP and one of the founder members of the party Gajanan Kirtikar, but has always maintained a low profile. He came into the limelight when his name was announced as Shiv Sena (UBT)'s candidate from North-West Mumbai and the next day he received a notice from Enforcement Directorate for his alleged corruption in the BMC khichdi scam.
1x1 polls
In an interview with TOI, Kirtikar said he preferred to go to jail and get his name cleared rather than join the Mahayuti.
Why did you stay back and is that why you were given the Lok Sabha ticket from North-West Mumbai?
Even if I wasn't given a ticket from the Shiv Sena, I would have chosen to stay back as I like late Balasaheb's ideology, Uddhavji's leadership and Aaditya's ideas.
Congress, NCP (SP), Aam Aadmi Party and Sena (UBT) party workers are not seen on the ground together. Also, you are not known unlike your rival Ravindra Waikar.
I have full support from all these parties. In Andheri, former Congress MLAs Suresh Shetty, Baldev Khosa, Ashok Jadhav are all campaigning for me with their party workers. AAP workers are going door to door campaigning. Waikar has never stepped out of Jogeshwari whereas for 10 years I have moved around the constituency helping my father.
Both candidates in this constituency have been accused of corruption by a senior BJP leader. How difficult will it be to convince people otherwise?

The BJP has a typical modus operandi. They have three situations: Arrest, threaten and defame. They try to transform financial irregularities into financial crime and then use the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by filing a case under it. It easily takes away 8-10 months of your time, running between lawyers and agencies. There were about 60-70 people in the khichdi distribution programme. But Kirit Somaiya, who neither ate the khichdi nor was a part of distribution, claimed there was a scam. The ED chargesheet against Suraj Chavan does not mention my name, neither does EOW. In the election affidavit, the candidate has to mention criminal cases. We wrote to city police commissioner to ask if there is any criminal complaint against me. There is none.
With the Sena split there will be a split in Marathi votes. Will the election be a difficult one?
People are upset about the Shiv Sena being broken. Waikar has gone to the other side, the workers have stayed back. There is a major sympathy factor for the party and anger against those who betrayed it. I am confident I shall get 7 lakh votes and win by a 4 lakh margin.
Your father and you now belong to different political parties.
I leave home before he is awake and return after he is asleep. There is mutual love and care. But I don't take suggestions on campaigning.
What issues in your constituency need to be addressed?
Housing for those on forest land, need for more FSI. Versova and Juhu coast need better tourism facilities. Koliwada issues need to be addressed.
